Aug 31th, 2012- Noisey has premiered the official video for Ringo Deathstarr’s new single “Rip” today. “Rip” is the first offering from the Austin, Texas trio’s forthcoming album Mauve (to be released in North America by Sonic Unyon on Sept 25th). The song is equally distorted and dreamy with bassist Alex Gehring handling vocals. The visuals for the song reflect this with Gehring, Elliott Frazier (guitar/vocals) and Daniel Coborn (drums) taking a Technicolor trip (replete with trails) with the help of some 3-D glasses from their cereal box.

Watch the new video for “Rip” in the video above or here:

Speaking on the creation of the song, Frazier recounts “Rip’ was the sixteenth and last song we recorded (for Mauve). Alex gave me a demo of herself singing the melody on an unplugged electric guitar. Without the drums, it could have been a Beat Happening song, but I was inspired and played drums on the track. It was created pretty organically and there was never any forethought that it would be the first single.”

Self-produced in Austin and Los Angeles, Mauve follows Ringo Deathstarr’s highly received 2011 LP, Colour Trip. Colour Trip, known for a massively blown out but melodic sound, helped the band to be named a highlight of SXSW 2011 by CNN, Brooklyn Vegan, NPR and Wired. The latter summed up their sound as “the band sounds like it leaped screaming out of My Bloody Valentine's blown amps.”

Rather than trying to raise the dizzying wall of guitar sound on its predecessor, Mauve raises the melodies and dials back the sonic assault while retaining the band’s signature decibel power. Frazier says of this approach “Colour Trip was a great studio album but on Mauve we just wanted to write songs that we would have a blast playing live and could recreate easily on stage.”

The band will be embarking on a five week North American tour this September and October. (Confirmed tour dates below). Album pre-order links is also below including full-length in LP, CD and digital editions via Sonic Unyon for North America and Rip 7” on Electric Blue Vinyl via UK label AC30.

Jessie Baylin Releases "Little Spark" B-Side Titled "Thorns"

From Jessie Baylin's critically acclaimed full-length album, Little Spark, comes a new track culled from those sessions titled "Thorns." Produced by Kevin Augunas (The Black Keys) and arranged by Richard Swift (The Shins), "Thorns" is a recently-released b-side gem from the Little Spark sessions - an album that showcases Jessie's lovely songwriting craft described by Rolling Stone as "seductive" and by the Associated Press as "lush, thoughtful pop music." "Thorns" is available now via iTunes and Amazon. Stream and share it below.

ELBOW Dead In The Boot – The B-Sides

Dead In The Boot – The B-Sides
Available September 4th on Fiction / Cooperative Music

"The band have always loved B-side land and this is a collection of our favorites. None of our B-sides are album rejects. It's a different space, usually just post finishing an album when all the members of Elbow are chiming and feeling very creative. This gives Dead in the Boot a real late night vibe. My sister came up with the title after we released Asleep in the Back. Some of these songs are the favorites we have ever written. It was important to us that this collection be an album in its own right so for some fans it may seem like there are glaring omissions, but these songs are the ones that hung together perfectly." Guy Garvey, Elbow

For long term Elbow watchers the announcement that Dead In The Boot is finally due for release on September 4th will be very good news indeed. First talked about around the time of the release of the bands debut album Asleep in the Back, Dead In The Boot brings together B-sides and the odd non-album track from the band's thirteen year recording career.

It's the first release following Elbow's highly-visible performance at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics. Elbow also contributed the specially commissioned "First Steps" to the London games.

The early years are represented by "None One" from the original Newborn EP released by Uglyman Records in 2000 and "Lucky With Disease" from 2001. The band's most recent work is showcased by "Buffalo Ghosts" the B-side to the limited edition 10" vinyl release of "Open Arms" last April.

In addition there are ten further tracks that demonstrate the depth of Elbow's songwriting, comprising heart wrenching ballads, loping steel guitar ornamented grooves ("The Long War Shuffle") and blues drenched howls ("McGreggor").

Mostly self-produced, recording B-sides throughout the years allowed the band to hone their studio skills which eventually led Elbow keyboard player Craig Potter to fully produce and mix the bands last two albums. It may be categorized as a B-sides album but Dead In The Boot stands shoulder to shoulder with every other Elbow album released.

"Dead In The Boot" will be available digitally on September 4th, 2012.
Look for vinyl & CD editions later this fall.

'Instinct' available now from Sub Pop

Supports Twin Shadow September 5-28;
Festival performances include Seattle's Bumbershoot on September 2,
Los Angeles' Culture Collide on October 7

Download Niki & The Dove "DJ Ease My Mind" (Twin Shadow remix)
Niki & The Dove will embark on their first-ever North American tour to support the critically acclaimed Instinct, now available via Sub Pop on CD, 2xLP and digitally.

The tour begins and ends in Los Angeles, CA on August 31 at The Echo and with the bands return on October 7 for the Culture Collide Block Party.   The tour also includes an appearance on September 2 in Seattle, WA at Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival. Along the way from September 5- 28, Niki & The Dove will act as act as direct support for 4AD recording artist Twin Shadow's fall tour.  Full tour dates below.
To celebrate the tour, we are now offering a download Niki and the Dove's "DJ Ease My Mind", remixed by Twin Shadow (see premiere August 28).  Stereogum says of the remix, "On his reworking, George Lewis, Jr. brings out the song’s haunted, meditative side."  The track is also available at iTunes now.

What people are saying about Niki + The Dove:
“..All 12 of its songs manage to be equally arresting, flitting between the sound of Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Cyndi Lauper, and trashy Europop, while delighting in tiny but pivotal moments, sites of emotional precipices and tremendous, history-making passions.” – Pitchfork
"They're refreshingly warm where Swedish peers the Knife are intentionally cold; they’re consistent where Florence + the Machine are spotty; they're accessible where Bat for Lashes is elusive. Recorded while the pair's profile was rising, Instinct sounds as though these vets knew that this was their moment to hustle like rookies while polishing like pros.” – SPIN

“Awash with grand ambitions, Niki & The Dove is one of the few bands whose grasp actually matches their reach. The result is dazzling...” – Under the Radar

"Her voice has the same something we love in so many Nordic pop singers that we promised ourselves we wouldn’t mention, those inimitable fragile gasps and massive roars. Dahlström’s voice crags out like a haunted Stevie Nicks singing off a lighthouse balcony...dramatic!"  - THE FADER
"The band's promising distinctive electronic pop overlays should be held accountable for the earworm syndrome with Niki& The Dove. Their songs are full of magic and light but with an unsettling darkness hidden beneath the surface." - FILTER "...It’s a beautiful, emotive celebration of the power of pop when it’s been made for the love of the art." -BBC
"They deserve to have the whole word hear these songs. Heck they deserve some sort of Nobel Pop Prize." [8/10] - NME
"Instinct is a multi-layered album that is meant to be consumed whole, which is what I love most about it. You can grind to it on the dancefloor, or let it bump from your nightstand as you unwind, but whatever you do, don't fight the impulses Niki & the Dove gives you to hit repeat." -  Glamour

The Hives - Wait A Minute
The Hives are ready for their close up with the release of their new video for "Wait A Minute," which recently premiered on MTV. MTV's own Buzzworthy Blog remarked "with squirmy close-ups on Howlin' Pelle Almqvist's cartoon eyes and mesmerizing jaw, 'Wait A Minute' is anything but zen; it's a taught, nervy, post-punk track that stays true to the Swedish group's garage origins."

Directed by Travis Schneider, the video was filmed in a Chicago hotel room using only some leather, an iron, a floor lamp, frozen yogurt, and the sweltering Chicago sun. "Wait A Minute" is the second single from The Hives lauded new album Lex Hives, which was released earlier this summer on the band's own Disques Hives.

Feel free to post & share the new "Wait A Minute" video:

The Hives will return to the U.S. next month for a West Coast run, kicking off September 2 at the Made In America festival in Philadelphia with stops in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas, and more. The tour will include appearances on CONAN on September 12 and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on October 5.

The September dates are the latest on the band's world tour, which included a stop this past weekend at Reading & Leeds Festival, and marks their second outing in the U.S. following a widely-praised run in June. The Philadelphia Inquirer proclaimed "The Hives have been single-handedly saving rock and roll," and the Washington Times stated, "The Hives played the audience like a fiddle." Similarly, MTV praised their "Superhuman capacity for consistent excellency," and SPIN anointed Howlin' Pelle Almqvist "one of the greatest frontmen in rock."

The band's newest album Lex Hives is receiving worldwide praise, with NME declaring "Let it be said that Lex Hives is amazing," and Q Magazine's 4-star review asserting "Lex Hives fizzes with the energy of a debut album, the quintet emphatically back to what they do best." Likewise, The Independent states, "If Lex Hives has one fault, it's that it makes you want to switch it off, go straight out and see the Hives live," and Entertainment Weekly proclaims "The Hives have returned to remind us the Swedes do it better."

The Hives are Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, and Vigilante Carlstroem.
