"On 'Standing in the Middle of the Field,' the quartet's vibrant synthesizer antics are at their most fine-tuned...a spirited bop with some sly pensive tension at its core..." - Pitchfork
"Cut Copy masterfully blends electronic music with indie rock music"
- Dancing Astronaut
Today, Cut Copy shared the official video for "Standing in the Middle of the Field,"the latest single from the album Haiku From Zero. The clip was directed by filmmaker/new media artist Vincenzi Vandella (Justice, Solange, Kirin J Callinan). Born in Russia and now based in Australia, the director's hybrid works span the worlds of music video, virtual reality, experiential and more.  View "Standing in the Middle of the Field" on Vevo HERE.

"Vincent is an old friend of the band, having done some of our very first tours together with his own band, The Midnight Juggernauts, but in recent years he's also been working as a filmmaker," says Dan Whitford, Cut Copy's lead singer. "He came to us earlier this year because he'd been experimenting with a strange visual effect having a camera rise upward through various difference scenes and landscapes, almost like delving through a collection of memories. He suggested this experiment might work well when put to our music. We agreed, so he set to work making this new clip for our song 'Standing in the Middle of the Field.'"
"The initial concept was to create a video that was uplifting, in a literal sense," explains Vincenzi Vandella. "We wanted the camera to rise up through various different scenes, telling the story of a couple in one long continuous shot. It would cover the minutia of their everyday intimacy, while also expanding to wider epic vistas, within the one journey. We shot the interior scenes by literally tying a camera to a rope and hoisting it from the ground upwards. Then we filmed a wide assortment of exteriors with a drone, from national parks to inner city lane ways, compositing everything together in post."
Remixes of  "Standing in the Middle of the Field" by Ara Koufax -the Australian duo that was introduced on the 2014 Cut Copy-curated compilation Oceans Apart - and acclaimed Munich-based DJ/producer Ferdinand Weber are now available for download and streaming:

Cut Copy will perform on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on Monday, November 6. The band will kick off a North American headline tour in support of Haiku From Zero on November 9 at the Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, CA. The run includes a November 10 concert at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles and a November 24 show at Terminal 5 in New York City. See below for itinerary. Tickets are available athttp://cutcopy.net/tour/Palmbomen II will support on all dates.
Fans can now immerse themselves in Cut Copy's new album, Haiku From Zero, via a new experiential website designed by Björn Flóki Björnsson. Visit "Making Haiku"HERE.
"Haiku From Zero and the artwork I generated for the album were inspired by the endless array of information and images that we're surrounded by on a daily basis, particularly the randomness of online images and GIFs," explains Whitford. "They can be absurd, poignant, humorous, frightening, banal, confusing, refined, throwaway - all at the same time. The experiential site takes elements and outtakes from the album artwork and assembles them into a little world to navigate through. You can click through to hear snippets of different songs, and it includes commentary by each of the band members on each track for those that want to know a little more about how we made the album."
Haiku From Zero - Cut Copy's first proper studio album in nearly four years and first for Astralwerks - was produced by Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Neon Indian). It is the follow-up to 2013's Free Your Mind. NPR Music hailed Haiku From Zero as "magnificently ambitious." "Song by song, the album gathers more and more emotion," said PitchforkUnder The Radar praised its "chill vibe and dancefloor-ready pop meditations" and AllMusic said, "the album is supremely confident...the songs hit like concentrated bursts of sunny, danceable pop."
SPIN observed, "'Standing in the Middle of the Field,'...builds slowly up from a sort of Congolese-sounding thumb piano loop before reaching stadium-sized liftoff about two-thirds of the way through." Pitchfork noted, "With it, Cut Copy reassert their ability to turn even moody introspection into floor-filler bliss."
Initially a bedroom recording project by Whitford, Cut Copy evolved into a full-fledged band with guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott, and bass player Ben Browning. The quartet's studio albums include In Ghost Colours, which Pitchfork named as one of the best albums of 2008 and among the top albums of the 2000s, and 2011's Zonoscope, which won two ARIA Awards and was nominated for a GRAMMY®.

The band's songs have been licensed for use in television, games and commercials, including FIFA 18, Chevrolet, Netflix, Amazon and Levi's® #LiveinLevis campaign. DJing and mixes have also been a big part of Cut Copy's identity - from the band's famed Fabric mix,Fabriclive.29, to the 2014 Melbourne dance compilation, Oceans Apart. In addition to headlining massive sold-out shows, the band has gained prime slots at prestigious festivals such as Coachella, Ultra and Lollapalooza in the U.S.; Primavera in Spain, Pitchfork in Paris; Summer Sonic in Japan; and Big Day Out in Australia.

MIKE PATTON SCORES STEPHEN KING’S 1922

IPECAC RECORDINGS TO RELEASE EXPANDED SCORE IN 2018

Oct. 19, 2017, Hemingford, Neb. – Mike Patton (Faith No More, Dead Cross) scores the Stephen King sourced thriller, 1922, which is available now via Netflix (https://www.netflix.com/title/80135164).

An expanded score will be released via Ipecac Recordings in 2018.

The 1922 offering follows-up Patton’s critically-acclaimed score to The Place Beyond The Pines, a musical outing that Pitchfork said served as “the glue uniting the film’s three disparate sections and many different tones” and Movie Music UK said Patton offered an “intelligent way of arranging his collages of sounds into fascinating musical effects.”

1922 is based on Stephen King's 131-page storytelling of a man's confession of his wife's murder. The tale is told from the perspective of Wilfred James, the story's unreliable narrator who admits to killing his wife, Arlette, with his son in Nebraska. But after he buries her body, he finds himself terrorized by rats and, as his life begins to unravel, becomes convinced his wife is haunting him.

Pretty Lights Releases New Single + New Year's Run Announced

Pretty Lights Releases New Single

New Year’s Run Announced
Rainbows and Waterfalls” finds Derek Vincent Smith—aka Pretty Lights—doing what he does best: blending the smooth sounds of old school funk and hip-hip with a next generation style that defies categorization. Shuggie Otis’ 1971 classic “Strawberry Letter 23” sets the foundation for the new track, which marks Pretty Lights’ first release since “Only Yesterday” dropped in March 2016. As a solo effort, it also represents a return to form for the Grammy-nominated producer, who Rick Rubin once called “the face and voice of the new American electronic music scene.”

Smith may have a well-deserved reputation for innovation in the studio, but his fresh approach to music has always been equally potent on stage. With the Pretty Lights Live project, he’s found a way to turn his electronic music shows into fully improvisational experiences like no other. It’s a unique vision that he brings to life with the help of Alvin Ford Jr. (drums), Chris Karns (turntables), Borahm Lee (keys) and Brandon Butler (keys) — a stellar group of musicians who have backed him in concert since the summer of 2016. Taking cues from early jazz musicians, Smith and his band make sure every performance is a unique adventure by injecting a healthy dose of improv into the equation. No song ever sounds the same twice.

De Lux Share Juan Maclean Remix Of "875 Dollars" On Magnetic l 'More Disco Songs About Love' Out 1/19 On Innovative Leisure

DE LUX SHARE JUAN MACLEAN REMIX OF "875 DOLLARS"
ON MAGNETIC

NEW ALBUM 'MORE DISCO SONGS ABOUT LOVE' OUT 1/19/2018 ON INNOVATIVE LEISURE
LISTEN & SHARE: De Lux - "875 Dollars" Juan Maclean Remix

LISTEN & SHARE: De Lux - "875 Dollars"
Spotify | SoundCloud

"...The Juan Maclean have been tasked with remixing LA disco duo, De Lux’s single “875 Dollars” to make a funky song even funkier. The task may seem near impossible, but damnit they do just that."
- Magnetic

"Flashes of the Talking Heads and New Order flood together with more conventional dance groups like Chic to form a fully formed and remarkably rich LP. "
- The 405

"Their Debut Album is too clever, almost supercilious in its mastery of the form. It is intricate, witty, inventive, dazzling in its detail, with melodies spiralling off of other melodies and little curlicues that lesser outfits would use as the basis for entire songs."
- The Guardian

"...bringing back twinkling 80s avant-pop in a big way."
- Noisey
Magnetic has premiered the Juan Maclean remix of De Lux's new single "875 Dollars". When talking about the remix De Lux said, "We've been a fan of Juan's music for a while. To our ears, he has really really good taste in house and disco and he took our version of '875' and made a simple minimal classy house track and added a darker tone. We blasted it through a big PA in our studio and turned off the lights. It's perfect for a darker club atmosphere.”

Juan Maclean added, “This track reminded me quite a bit of the early days of DFA, I had some nostalgia sitting in the studio listening to it. It particularly reminded me of The Rapture, and I got to thinking about how much Chicago House was a big influence back then for everyone, and those guys playing lots of that stuff around the office. So I dug out my trusty TR 707 drum machine, the drums that House was built on, and the JX3P, a synth staple around the DFA studio, and tried to put myself back in those days.”

The original cut of "875 Dollars" will be featured on the duo's forthcoming LP 'More Disco Songs About Love', out 1/19/2018 on Innovative Leisure.

After establishing a sound on their debut Voyage and then establishing an identity with the revelatory Generation, L.A. disco-not-disco duo De Lux took a moment to re-center and come back leaner, sharper, clearer and deeper on their new album 'More Disco Songs About Love'. Now that co-founders Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco know how to play and what to say, they’re ready to just get lost in the music. As the band puts it: “We like to say Voyage was our baby, Generation was our baby all grown up and 'More Disco Songs About Love' thinks growing up sucks and just wants to party smart.”
They started in 2013 with a happy accident called “Better At Making Time,” the lead track of their 2014 debut Voyage and an unexpected practice-space jam session that crystallized a sound, a philosophy and a future direction all at once. In that sudden moment De Lux snapped into focus as an outfit matching post-punk sentiment and the-sociopolitical-is-personal perspective to joyfully indulgent analog synthesizer soundscapes and a deliriously transportive musical joy. And the press was ready to take the ride, with the Guardian calling Voyage “intricate, witty, inventive, dazzling in its detail” and Billboard celebrating its “lush, eclectic dance music.”
On their 2015 sophomore album Generation—a title activating every sense of the word—De Lux added a new almost-documentary aspect to their dance music, delivering clearly personal stories of anxiety and hopeful aspiration from the place where IRL L.A. exhaustion collides with a digital city that never sleeps. (As Guerin sang: “All of these things that they put us through / I’m writing it down / I’m writing it down.”) And they were growing up in other ways, too: 2015 saw their first major festival appearance at Bonnaroo, where they delivered the first of many stand-out big-show performances. Then in 2016, they made a hotly tipped Coachella debut and shared a bill with Arcade Fire at New York City’s Panorama fest. And then at the end of that summer, they started the very first experiments that would lead to their new album.
Like Voyage, 'More Disco Songs About Love' starts with the song that made everything clear: “875 Dollars,” a song (in part) about losing the place you’ve always called home. From there it’s a stream-of-consciousness tour through De Lux’s reality, from the family and friends who helped focus the sound of the album to everyday L.A. experiences, including but not limited to elections, evictions, even porn—although in the context you’d least expect, of course. New York City dance-punk legend Sal P. of Liquid Liquid—who did a De Lux remix on their first-ever release—takes featured vocals on the relentless “Smarter Harder Darker” and the Pop Group’s maniacal Mark Stewart pushes “Stratosphere Girl” into interstellar overdrive. (Plus Guerin’s mother Marie helps out with some very French examination of crepe preferences on “Music Snob,” mutant sibling to Generation’s surreal “Oh Man The Future.”)
And even though the title might seem like some kind of clever reference to something, it’s really just as simple and direct as it seems. The disco is the sound—in the most innovative way, of course—and the love is the sentiment: “‘875’ is love for a house,” they say. “‘These Are Some Of The Things That I Think About’ is love for thought. ‘Keyboards Cause We're Black and White’ is our love for a friend.  ‘Writing Music For Money, To Write More Music’ is love for music—or money. It's all literal to us but we realize that it might not be for others.  We like the idea of giving listeners something to question and wonder about. But there's love in there.”

The album is video game inspired.  But more in its production and fresh perspective in another art form.  We forgot what it meant to be listeners of music and having an objective viewpoint when writing. But with video games, we know what we want from game companies. Whether they didn’t add multiplayer or maybe focused too much on graphics.  We applied the same logic with writing.  Asking friends and family their honest opinions and their take on what they really want to hear in most of these songs.  This gave us a push to really strive to seek a good balance of not destroying our artist dignity while accepting harsh criticism and working at that.  You could say we had our own sort of team of producers.

Sean was listening to a ton of Stevie Wonder during the writing process.  The album focuses a lot on bringing melody through the vocals mainly and letting the rythm section guide you along.  One night we went to Del Taco, and Michael Jackson was on the radio.  Isaac realized that his rythm section or drums continued on one path very consistently without really changing. No fills or nothing. We took a bit of that approach on a lot of these songs.

-The album title is a joke.

-There’s a Super Smash Brothers Melee sample in one of the songs, not telling which one.

-Sean’s mom talks about making Crepes in french on ‘Music Snob’.

Rita Ora Releases UK Single 'Anywhere'

RITA ORA RELEASES UK SINGLE ‘ANYWHERE’
AVAILABLE NOW ON ATLANTIC RECORDS

HOSTING THE 2017 MTV EMAs
Rita Ora made her spectacular return to music with the release of “Your Song” in May. Now she’s back with the follow up “Anywhere,” her next UK single, which is available now on Atlantic Records. The video for “Anywhere” is also out today, and was directed by Declan Whitebloom (Taylor Swift, One Direction) and filmed in New York. You can watch the video here

Rita co-wrote the song with Andrew Watt (the hitmaker behind “Let Me Love You,” “It Ain’t Me” and “Havana”).

“Anywhere” entwines Rita’s unmistakably modern soul with classic '90s elements, and an exhilarating bassline. Rita wrote “Anywhere” when she was based in LA earlier this year. “I was in a routine, working every day, and found myself day dreaming about breaking out of the city and going on a road trip with my friends and never looking back.” This is Pop at its sweetest, most persuasive form of escapism.

Following a succession of high profile TV performances, “Your Song” established Rita as one of pop’s leaders. Earlier this month Rita dazzled viewers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show with a stunning live performance of the track and has also performed the single on key shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonGood Morning America, and the 2017 Teen Choice Awards.

Rita is currently having her second hit of the year thanks to her recent collaboration with Avicii. Their melancholy dance hit, “Lonely Together” is now giving Rita another streaming hit around the world.

All three singles will be on Rita Ora’s upcoming album due for release next year. The album includes songs Rita has worked on with Stargate, Julia Michaels and DFA.

Next month Rita Ora will be taking over Europe’s premiere music awards show. Rita will host and perform at the 2017 MTV EMAs live from London’s SSE Arena Wembley on Sunday, November 12th at 8:00pm GMT.

Rita made her debut at the EMAs in Frankfurt in 2012 when she performed “RIP” and throughout the years Rita has collected eight nominations. The awards show will be broadcast live across the globe.

Bully - 'Losing' - Out Today!

BULLY RELEASES
LOSING
OUT TODAY ON SUB POP

"Alicia Bognanno has the loveliest snarl this side of Nirvana's Live at Reading. That it's in a pop-punk setting, with lyrics reckoning with adulthood, only strengthens its power." -New York Magazine

"full of tough-earned wisdom and egalitarian rage, Losing is a high-energy, high-impact emotional workout for everyone involved." -Wired

"The bass hops around nervously in nearly constant eighth notes, with drums syncopated against it à la the Police; a guitar on the left offers a neat new-wave hook while another one on the right grumbles occasionally with dissonant, distorted squawks. And as those tensions flare into multiple little crescendos, the singer Alicia Bognanno gets herself more and more worked up." -New York Times

"Expect lots more of Bognanno's sharp, cynical emotional insights and impassioned yells, all backed by Bully's gnawing, '90s-inspired sound." -SPIN

"The record once again faces down youthful angst, but with a notable growth in Bognanno's maturity" -Consequence of Sound

"Alicia Bognanno has a way of channeling her inner struggles into tightly-constructed and toiled-over rock songs with a classic touch."
-Stereogum

"Bognanno explores a lot of loss, diving headfirst into the complicated emotions associated with death, heartbreak, isolation and more. The result is an especially personal effort, a batch of songs that are blistering and angst-ridden, but which still boast a wink toward playful pop. Bognanno's not wrong when she says it tops Feels Like." -Nashville Scene

Bully's sophomore album Losing is out today via Sub Pop Records. The album was recorded in Chicago at Electrical Audio, recorded and engineered by lead-singer Alicia Bognanno and is available for purchase here. Losing is the follow up to Bully's critically acclaimed debut Feels Like.
